Measures against the H1N1 Flu

νέα γρίπη

The H1N1 virus is a new type of influenza virus, causing respiratory disease in humans and is transmitted from person to person, in the same way that seasonal flu is spread by droplets that are dispersed by sneezing and coughing or even from touching surfaces or objects contaminated with respiratory droplets, and then put our hands to the eyes, nose or mouth.

As with most viruses, the flu "will run its course". But many times, the attenuated body develops other diseases (e.g. pneumonia or bronchitis), and to avoid these
all measures should be taken, so asto strengthen the body.

The best protection against flu is the vaccine against the H1N1 virus.

On the other hand, nutrition can provide a variety of substances that alter the body and make it stronger to deal with the flu.

In the first "line of defense" are: chicken, eggs, fish, dairy products, olive oil, legumes and nuts, foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, pears, spinach) and C (citrus fruits, peppers, kiwi), zinc and iron. Finally, garlic and selenium seem to play an important role in combating viruses. Other vegetable substances such as Echinacea and Propolis, on a daily consumption, may also protect against every flu.

Nutrition plays a key role in enhancing the body's defense against viruses.
However, taking all or some of the above items is a quite difficult task, therefore, taking a multivitamin or specific vitamins and minerals is helpful. Thus, consumption of one tablet containing Vit C at doses of 135mg - 1000mg daily and in combination with Zinc (Zn) and Echinacea, are the strongest forms of dietary supplement for boosting the immune system.

Of course, vaccines, good mental and physical health, good sleep and sport, are also measures to be taken to strengthen body's defense against the flu.

And do not forget ...

The best defense against flu is prevention!

So avoid ...

  • hand contact with eyes, nose and mouth
  •  handshakes and kisses
  •  sharing pencils, pens, markers and other personal items

Wash your hands and cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneeing. Air regularly rooms and frequently clean surfaces that have frequent contacts (e.g. door handles, tables, etc.).
