Diarrhea is a change in the composition of stools (meaning the appearance of soft or watery stools) in combination with the increased frequency of bowel movements (3 or more daily).
Infectious Diarrhea
Is the appearance of diarrhea due to an infectious agent, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain cramps.
Acute diarrheal syndrome
Is the appearance of diarrhea lasting less than 7 days, and if longer than 7 days the term "persistent diarrhea syndrome" is used.
The most common enochopoioumena bacteria outbreaks of infectious diarrhea are:
- Salmonella
- Shigella
- Campylobacter
- Escherichia Coli
- Clostridium Difficile
The causes of suffering from these pathogens are many, among which are:
- Travel to developing countries
- Consumption of 'suspicious foods', not well-boiled eggs, meat, seafood, unpasteurized milk, etc.
- Swimming or drinking water from rivers and lakes
- Staying in the same room with other people with similar symptoms.
Therapy
A. Nutrition:
- Rice
- Potatoes
- Pasta
- Wheat
- Oats
- Bananas
- Yogurt and boiled vegetables
- Recommended temporary avoidance of dairy
B. Medication:
- Antibacterials, if bacterial infection is diagnosed, the doctor will administer the appropriate antibiotics.
- Antiemetics in patients with vomiting
- Anti-diarrheal, mostly loperamide (Imodium) and Nifouroxazidi (ercefuryl) that have proven efficacy.
G. Probiotics:
The use of Lactobacillus has proved effective, particularly in children.
D. Products in the pharmacy with probiotics, suitable for the treatment of diarrhea are:

E. Electrolytes:
Restore the disturbed ionic balance of the body because of the mixed water and electrolyte loss as a result of vomiting and diarrhea.
F. Other Products such as:
The Rizolyte and Polase, restore normal bowel function.
