epsos

From  July 2008, when epSOS began, Pharmaxis in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and with leading institutions (ministries of health of European countries), well-known companies and the European Union, it participates actively in the implementation of the Greek pilot for the cross-border ePrescription services.

Pharmaxis thanks to the strong scientific and academic background of its executives, participates in epSOS, offering services such as:

  • Project management
  • Legal support
  • Pharmaceutical Advisory Services
  • Project evaluation

Moreover, from the summer of 2011 until December 2013, 15 strategically selected pharmacies of Pharmaxis, will be ready to serve European patients via the use of epSOS (in pilot level) and will constitute the only points of care with this particular infrastructure in Greece.

About epSOS:

What is epSOS ?

epSOS is the main European electronic Health (eHealth) interoperability project co-funded by the European Commission and the partners. It focuses on improving medical treatment of citizens while abroad by providing health professionals with the necessary patient data. Moreover, it concentrates on developing a practical eHealth framework and ICT infrastructure that enables secure access to patient health information among different European healthcare systems. epSOS can make a significant contribution to patient safety by reducing the frequency of medical errors and by providing quick access to documentation. In emergency situations, this documentation  provides the medical personnel with life-saving information and reduces the (sometimes needless) repetition of diagnostic procedures. The epSOS consortium continues to grow: On 1 January 2011, 11 additional countries joined the ongoing epSOS project. The project team now consists of 47 beneficiaries from 20 EU countries and 3 non EU countries.

epSOS will test cross-border eHealth services in the following areas:

Patient Summary

The concise Patient Summary in the frames epSOS, is reported in a total of elements that contain:

  • general information for the patient (eg name, age)
  • medical file that is constituted by the most important clinical data of patient (eg allergies, running medical problems, medical implants, important surgical interventions of the past last six months etc)
  • pharmaceutical file where all running medicines that concern the patient are reported

ePrescription /eDispensation

  • ePrescribing is defined as the electronic prescribing of medicine with the use of software by a legally authorized health professional and the electronic transmission of said prescription data to a pharmacy where the medicine can then be dispensed.
  • eDispensing is defined as the electronic retrieval of a prescription and the dispensing of the medicine to the patient as indicated in the corresponding ePrescription. Once the medicine has been dispensed, the dispenser is to report the dispensation information using the ePrescription software.
