Bad Breath and Psychological Consequenses

There is no man whose mouth does not smell bad, during a whole day . The most common type of bad breath is in the morning. The percentage of people with bad breath can reach 27.5%, according to dental studies.
Bad breath is a major factor for low self-esteem and confidence. To say to someone that he has bad breath may be traumatic, and one may become unpopular to others. Chronic bad breath may become the reason for dissolution of marriages and relationships.
Various factors are those which give an unpleasant smell, unpleasant smelly exhalation or expiration. Some foods (eg garlic, onion), alcohol, smoking, dry mouth, medications (eg diuretics, anticholinergics, antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants) have been implicated of worsen bad breath. However, the main causes of the problems remain the oral cavity (unhealthy teeth, gingivitis, periodontitis).
From all of the above, it should be made clear that the visit to the dentist should be the primary concern for the treatment of bad breath.
Only if there is no oral cause (about 10% of cases of bad breath), we can investigate the problem of bad breath, to doctors as gastroenterologists, diabetologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists, etc. In addition, there may be bad breath due to phychological diseases, such as depression and schizophrenia.
Dealing with bad breath
- Effective and regular brushing
- Change toothbrush every 3-4 months
- Flossing, cleaning the back of the tongue with special scrapers
- Visit the dentist at least once every six months.
- Stop smoking
- Frequent use of artificial saliva product to dry mouth
- Use of aqueous solutions of essential oils, chlorhexidine solution
- Sugarless gum with xylitol, pure mastic
- Use of enriched toothpaste with fluoride or zinc sulfate 0.2%
- Herbal green tea, making dill, fennel, nutmeg.
